Performance Lighting

01

Does it cost anything to join the Players?

Yes. Putting on great shows that attract an enthusiastic local audience is not only a huge team effort, but also a financial commitment. While we do our best to recover many of our production costs through tickets sales and sponsorship, we ask that performers and stage crew make a contribution to these costs through an annual membership fee. The fee also ensures we are able to meet the requirements of our insurance provider.

Current fees are £35 per adult per year. Adult membership includes all children under 18 in a family who are involved in a production. Parents or guardians must purchase an adult membership to cover any of their children aged under 18.

You do not need to commit to membership right away. If you are thinking about joining the Players, please contact us - we can arrange for you to attend a rehearsal, meet the group and see what we do before you make your decision to join.

I would like to try my hand at doing some acting, but I’m pretty busy with work and family. How much of my time would I need to commit to the Players if I was in a show?

There is no doubt that putting on a show requires a commitment from everyone in the team. However, we do try to schedule our shows to allow for breaks throughout the year. Generally, we aim to put on two shows a year – one in early December and another in late spring. This means that we do not rehearse over the summer months or during the Christmas and New year period.

We usually begin rehearsing three months before a production is due to be on stage with rehearsals taking place every Wednesday evening from 7-9pm. Preparing for a small speaking or chorus part in a show will require that you attend weekly rehearsals so you can learn your lines or songs. A leading role will require you to attend rehearsals plus spend time at home learning your lines and/or songs. Most of our productions have a good range of roles, so there are opportunities to take on more or less demanding roles depending on your skills and availability.

We also understand that people have lives outside of the Players, so it is OK to miss the occasional rehearsal provided you let the production team know you are going to away and make sure you have prepared for the next one.

If you’d like to come to a rehearsal to see how things work and meet the team, please contact us.
